Hunter Ice Skating Stadium is located in Warners Bay near Lake Macquarie. The rink is the only ice rink servicing the Lake Macquarie and Hunter areas north of Sydney. Newcastle Northstars AIHL & IHNSW teams are based at the rink along with NSA Hockey. Hunter Ice Skating Stadium is heavily used for hockey in winter, hosting games by various teams of the Newcastle Northstars in IHNSW, ECSL & AIHL competitions.

Newcastle Northstars entered the Australian Ice Hockey League in 2002 & are based at the Hunter Ice Skating Stadium near Warners Bay (Lake Macquarie). They have won the Goodall Cup in 2003, 2006, 2008, 2015, 2016.


In 2017, Northstars finished in 7th position on 30 points, 10 points away from 4th position and Finals. 10 games were won (7 in regulation, 3 in shootout) & 18 games were lost (15 in regulation, 3 in shootout).
