There is a great way to watch hockey – to watch it live at the game! Depending on the time of year and the game day experience you are after, there are several ways of watching live hockey in Sydney. There are competitions in winter and summer across the various rinks in Sydney, Central Coast & Hunter areas. Compared to North American experiences, watching live hockey is low cost entertainment. However, the rinks are not dedicated sporting stadiums for watching hockey.

Australian NHL fans have also been known to travel to North America to watch NHL games. NHL TV provides Australians with the North American TV experience. There are also limited locations which promote live viewing of games at a common location and time. [NHL TV – More Info] [NHL Watch Party – More Info]

Each year, Sydney and Melbourne host an exhibition game between US & Canada during the Australian winter. Various players from the NHL, AHL & ECHL travel to Australia during the North American off-season combine to give the Australian fans an NHL type experience in larger stadiums. Further information will be added here closer to the dates (June 2017).

Locally, there are many games that you can watch ranging from beginners and children through to various levels of adult play to elite level state and national competitions. Of most interest to hockey fans in Sydney are the Australian Ice Hockey League (AIHL), East Coast Super League (ECSL), Australian Junior Ice Hockey League (AJIHL) & Australian Womens Ice Hockey League (AWIHL).
