Since starting watching hockey in early 2014, often I’ve said “Not that I planned to do this, but….”

This statement continues with a decision in mid May 2017 for me to start playing in a beginner’s league at Ice Zoo on Tuesday nights from June 20. The season ran run for 10 weeks and was aimed at newer players. The new competition called Beerginners is organised by the same people who run Friday Night Hockey at Ice Zoo. Friday Night Hockey’s 4th season will mostly run at the same time as Beerginners. Obviously, the aim would be for players to progress from Beerginners to Friday Night Hockey as their skills increase. There was 4 teams for Beerginners initially which is how Friday Night Hockey started. Friday Night Hockey has now progressed to 6 teams. Beerginners has filled all available spots in 9 days since being launched online. My team (pictured, photo by Demi Barclay) are the Mascot Jets. Other teams are Wayward Sons, Mighty Drunks & Trash Pandas.

You can start to follow my progress online from before the season until the Grand Final. This page will feature content based on this rookie season. A small sample is featured here at Harbour City Hockey including some related videos. Most content in this series appears exclusively at Grassroots Sports.
